Unimog - 27ft knuckle boom

Our 1989 Mercedes Unimog was imported by Freightliner and retrofitted for use in the US military.  It is one of 164 produced with this configuration of a 27ft knuckle boom on the back and a forklift on the front.

It is an integral part of Acton Arboriculture’s operations and is definitely an eye catcher with it’s unique physique.

Low emission chipper

Low emission chipper

Our low emission chippers have tier 4 engines.
What does that mean?
They are compliant with the stringent emission standards set by the California  Air Resources Board and burn cleaner than other diesel engines previously in
production.  That’s right…you could say we have gone green.

Air spade services

An air spade is a tool that uses huge amounts of compressed air (150 cubic feet per minute or more-pumped into a 3/4 inch hose, from which it is delivered through an aperture the size of a pencil) in order to move soil, debris and rock while preserving and protecting the root system under investigation. The air spade has become the premier air tool for advanced tree care. We offer complete air spade services for both homeowners and contractors.

Plant lists

Wondering what plant or tree would be perfect in your yard?  You can imagine that we get asked that question quite frequently.  That is why we have compiled the below lists of trees, shrubs, ground covers and lawn substitutes based on water usage and need fulfillment in the landscape.

DROUGHT TOLERANT SHADE AND PATIO TREES

These drought tolerant shade trees are perfect for low-maintenance,
low water usage gardens that could use some extra shade.  They are
also great for taking center stage on patios.

DROUGHT TOLERANT SCREEN PLANTS

These screen plants will provide privacy from neighbors while being a low cost and low-maintenance alternative to fencing.  Once established, all of these screen trees and shrubs are deer resistant and require little water.

SHADE TREES FOR LAWNS

The trees in this list are suitable for lawns because of their soil moisture tolerances and rooting characteristics.

DROUGHT TOLERANT GROUND COVERS AND LAWN SUBSTITUTES

This list will provide you with alternatives to a traditional lawn that require a fraction of the water but still allow you to reap all the same use benefits.

SHADE TOLERANT TREES

This list of shade tolerant trees allows those with eastern or northern exposure or forested gardens to still enjoy the beauty of trees.  These specimens might require a bit more water but might also be the perfect tree for those of you who are sun challenged.

Don't see the list you are looking for?  Send us an email and we would be happy to compile it for you.

Free wood chips and firewood rounds

Often times after a hard days work we are left with wood chips (mulch) and firewood rounds but have no place to dump them. As you can imagine, space at the yard becomes an issue rather quickly. That is why we offer free wood chip and firewood round delivery within our working area which consists of Western Nevada county and Placer county. CA.
Please note: We do not service the state of Nevada.

Common Uses of Wood Chips (mulch):

Garden beds
Around trees
Pathways
Playgrounds

Benefits of Mulching:

– Helps maintain soil moisture. Evaporation is reduced, and the need for watering can be minimized.
– Helps control weeds. A 2- to 4-inch layer of mulch will reduce the germination and growth of weeds.
– Many types of mulch can improve soil aeration, structure (aggregation of soil particles) and  drainage over time.
– Some mulches improve soil fertility.
– A layer of mulch can inhibit certain plant diseases.
– Mulching around trees helps facilitate maintenance and can reduce the likelihood of damage from weed wackers or the dreaded lawn mower blight.
– Mulch can give planting beds a uniform, well-cared for look.

Firewood Rounds:

Firewood will be delivered in rounds cut into 16″ lengths.  Unfortunately, we do not split firewood and do not offer delivery of specific types of wood.

How much can I expect to be delivered?

To minimize fuel cost, we usually only deliver when the truck is at capacity.  Therefore, most loads of wood chips will contain between 4 and 5 yards of material. We do not offer delivery of specific types of wood chips.  Loads of firewood rounds will be between a half to one cord.

How can I get a load of free wood chips or firewood rounds?

Since we cannot guarantee delivery on any specified date, we will put you on a list. When we have a need to dump wood chips or firewood and are in your area we will contact you. Please be specific with your inquiry. Here is what we need to know:

1. Are you interested in wood chips, firewood rounds or both?
2. Your name, telephone number and address are required as it helps determine how close your location is to the job site.
3. Can we still make the delivery if we cannot reach you? If yes, then where is your preferred delivery location? (Often times customers mark this location with a cone or flag).
4. How many deliveries do you want?

To sign-up you can either submit an entry through our website or join our Facebook Group “Free mulch and firewood rounds”.  Either way you will be added onto the list and hopefully receiving a delivery soon.
Please note that our service area consists of Western Nevada and Placer counties.
